Murder Mystery 2 (MM2) is one of the longest-running hit games on Roblox. Every round, one player is the Murderer, one is the Sheriff, and everyone else is Innocent. Sounds simple, but winning consistently requires smart movement, game sense, and knowing the right strategy for each role. This guide covers everything from role-specific tips to trading your items for profit.

🎯 How MM2 Works
Every round assigns three roles randomly:
- Murderer - Has a knife. Must eliminate all other players without getting caught by the Sheriff.
- Sheriff - Has a gun. Must identify and shoot the Murderer before they wipe everyone out.
- Innocent - No weapons. Must survive until the Sheriff takes out the Murderer, or pick up the Sheriff's gun if they die.
If the Murderer eliminates everyone, they win. If the Sheriff (or a Hero who picked up the gun) shoots the Murderer, the Innocents win. If the Sheriff shoots the wrong person, they die and drop their gun.
🔪 How to Win as Murderer
Playing Murderer is the hardest role but also the most rewarding. Here is how to win:
Early Game - Blend In
- Do not pull out your knife immediately. Keep it hidden. Walk around, collect coins, and act exactly like an Innocent.
- Identify the Sheriff first. Watch who is being cautious, who has their camera looking around a lot, or who is following suspicious players. The Sheriff usually behaves differently.
- Stay in groups. Being alone makes you suspicious. Stay near other players early on.
Mid Game - Start Picking People Off
- Target isolated players first. Wait for someone to wander off alone, take them out quietly, then rejoin the group.
- Prioritize the Sheriff. Your biggest threat. If you can take out the Sheriff early, the rest of the round becomes much easier.
- Use chaos to your advantage. When players panic after a death, they scatter. Pick off stragglers during the confusion.
Late Game - Control the Gun
- If the Sheriff dies, guard the gun. The dropped gun is the only thing that can stop you. Stand near it or keep it in your line of sight.
- Do not throw your knife from far away unless you are sure. Missing a throw reveals you as the Murderer to everyone who sees it.
- Be patient. Rushing kills gets you caught. The best Murderers take their time.
🔫 How to Win as Sheriff
Sheriff is high pressure - one shot, one chance. Here is how to make it count:
Finding the Murderer
- Do not show your gun early. Keep it hidden. If the Murderer knows who has the gun, you become their priority target.
- Watch behavior, not appearance. The Murderer will act differently - following players, looking around corners, moving toward isolated targets.
- Listen for the knife sound. When the Murderer equips their knife, it makes a distinct "clink" sound. Train your ears for it.
- Wait for visual confirmation. Only shoot when you actually see the knife or see them kill someone. Shooting the wrong person kills you and drops the gun.
Taking the Shot
- Use first-person view for aiming. Switch to first person when the Murderer is close for better precision.
- Do not shoot a spam jumper mid-air. Wait for them to reach the peak of their jump or land. Their movement is predictable at those moments.
- Stay mobile while aiming. Do not stand still. Move sideways while tracking your target to avoid getting hit by a thrown knife.
- Use Shift Lock. It helps with aiming and lets you see around corners without fully exposing yourself.
🏃 How to Win as Innocent
Most players think Innocent is boring. Wrong. Good Innocent play wins games.
- Stay near groups but not too close. Being in a cluster of 4-5 players is safe. Being in a tight huddle of 8 makes you an easy multi-kill target.
- Watch for suspicious behavior. Is someone following others? Camping dark corners? Moving toward isolated players? Call them out in chat.
- Do not wander alone. Going into empty rooms or narrow hallways is how you die. Stay in open areas with escape routes.
- Be ready to pick up the gun. If the Sheriff dies, pay attention to where the gun drops. If the Murderer is not camping it, grab it and become the Hero.
- Use coins as bait for information. Coin spawns are random. Watch who avoids coins (the Murderer might avoid them to stay focused on killing).
- Run unpredictably. If the Murderer chases you, do not run in a straight line. Jump, change direction, use obstacles. Make yourself hard to hit.
🗺️ Movement & Map Tips
- Learn every map. Knowing the layout, hiding spots, and escape routes gives you a massive advantage regardless of role.
- Use Shift Lock. It improves your movement control and lets you look around corners without exposing your character.
- Never run in straight lines. Zig-zag, jump, and change directions. This applies to running from the Murderer AND chasing as the Murderer.
- Use obstacles. Tables, pillars, walls - put them between you and threats. The Murderer's knife throw has limited range.
- Know the "safe spots." Some maps have elevated platforms or tight spaces that are harder for the Murderer to reach quickly.
- Sound matters. Footsteps give away positions. Walk slowly when trying to sneak up on someone or hide from the Murderer.
⚡ Best Perks to Use
Perks give you small advantages that add up over time:
- Ninja (Murderer) - Silences the knife equip sound. Extremely powerful because the Sheriff cannot hear you pull out your weapon.
- Haste (Murderer) - Move faster after getting a kill. Helps you chain eliminations before people scatter.
- Trap (Murderer) - Place a trap that reveals player locations. Useful for finding the last few survivors.
- Xray (Sheriff) - See the Murderer's name tag through walls for a brief period. Helps confirm suspicious players.
- Radio (Innocent) - Broadcasts a location ping when you die, helping the Sheriff find the Murderer.
💎 Trading Guide & Item Values
MM2 has one of the biggest trading economies on Roblox. Here is how to not get scammed:
How Values Work
- Item values are based on rarity and demand. A rare item nobody wants is worth less than a common item everyone wants.
- Values change daily based on market trends, events, and new item releases.
- The game itself does not have official values. The community uses independent value lists.
Trusted Value Sources
- Supreme Values - One of the most widely used value databases.
- MM2Values - Another reliable community-maintained list.
- Traderie - Has a trade calculator that tells you if a deal is a Win, Fair, or Loss.
Item Tiers (Rarity)
- Godly - High value, essential for serious trading.
- Ancient - Event-based, very rare. Some are extremely valuable.
- Chroma - Color-changing effects. Used as anchors in high-value trades.
- Legendary / Rare / Uncommon / Common - Standard tiers with lower values.
Trading Tips
- Reach level 10 first. Trading is locked until you hit level 10.
- Always check values before trading. Never accept a trade without looking up both items first.
- Never trade outside the game. Only use the official in-game trade system.
- Watch out for "too good to be true" offers. If someone offers you a Godly for your Legendary, it is probably a scam.
- Event items can be flipped. Get event items early when they drop, then trade them after the event ends when supply drops and demand rises.
❌ Common Mistakes
- Showing your weapon too early. Whether knife or gun, keeping it hidden is always the smarter play.
- Sheriff shooting without confirmation. Guessing who the Murderer is and shooting gets you killed. Wait for proof.
- Running alone as Innocent. You are an easy target. Stay with the group.
- Ignoring the dropped gun. If the Sheriff dies, someone needs to pick up the gun. Do not just stand there watching.
- Getting scammed in trades. Always use value lists. Never let someone rush you. Take your time.
- Not learning the maps. Map knowledge is a huge advantage. Play each map multiple times and memorize layouts.
- Moving in straight lines. Predictable movement gets you killed as any role.
